Library Instruction and Orientations

Library Instruction and orientation courses are designed to provide students with an introduction to the CTC Library program, physical and electronic collections, databases, and to GALILEO, Georgia's virtual library.

The general library orientation class introduces students to the library program and to GALILEO, Georgia's Virtual Library. Students will  learn how to search the online catalog, start a research project, identify scholarly sources and refine search results. The library also offers customized training to fit the instructor's specific requirements. This may include:

  • a deep dive into specific GALILEO databases
  • an introduction to the APA/MLA writing styles
  • a session on how to write an annotated bibliography
  • a session on locating and identifying academic/peer reviewed articles.

Classes can be taught within the Library or in the instructor's classroom if it is equipped with a computer and projector or smartboard. Classes can also be taught virtually using collaboration software such as Web-X and/or TEAMS. Library Instruction and orientations are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Instructors can reserve a spot on the Library calendar by contacting Hanna Foster, CTC Instructional Librarian at 706-649-1440 or by emailing her at hfoster@columbustech.edu.
